SUMMER TIME SALSA IN CENTRAL PARK

LOCATION

The Naumburg Bandshell, on the Mall just south of the Bethesda Terrace in Central Park, Manhattan.  Middle of the park from the East 72nd Street or West 72nd Street entrances, right next to SummerStage, the Rumsey Playfield and the roller skating area.

TYPE OF EVENT & VENUE A popular annual outdoor salsa dancing event in Central Park.  This is one of the few On 2 outdoor summer events in NYC.
MUSIC Almost entirely pure classic salsa plus a little cha cha played by the DJs.
DANCE PERFORMANCES Usually one of Carlos Konig's dance teams  and Almyra Ayos' dance teams perform. They would be listed on our Main Calendar.
DJ DJ Carlos Konig and guest DJs.
BAND None.
DANCE FLOOR Outdoor cement in front of the Naumburg Bandshell.
PRICES Free.
BEVERAGES AND FOOD There are vendors nearby in the park selling beverages, hot dogs and ice cream.
DRESS CODE Very casual, typical for a park in the summer (jeans, shorts, t-shirts, etc.).

DANCE TIMING

Mostly "New York On 2" timing and style, plus people passing by in the park usually join in the dancing and they are mainly "On 1" or just made up fun dancing.

DESCRIPTION Every summer, instructors and performers Carlos Konig and Almyra Ayos present this outdoor salsa dancing event in Central Park in the huge space in front of the Naumburg Bandshell.  It's a very nice "park dancing event" where everyone comes dressed for the summer people can bring friends and family.  There are park benches and grass nearby plus lots of parkgoers strolling by, many of whom join in the dancing.
 
HOW TO GET THERE

Map Showing "Bandshell".  The Bandshell is located next to 72nd Street entrance along the Mall.  Map Showing Central Pak Location.  Enter Central Park at either East 72nd Street or West 72nd Street and walk into the middle of the park to the main Mall, right near SummerStage.  You will see a very large outdoor bandshell with a stage.  Click on Picture of Bandshell.  On the west side:  B and C trains to West 72nd Street station.  On the east side:  #6 train to either 68th or 77th Street stations, then walk west to the park entrance at 5th Avenue and 72nd Street.

OTHER INFORMATION The event usually continues if it's overcast and threatening rain, or if it just rains slightly.  But, obviously, the event stops in the event of real heavy continuous rain.  Click on Weather Forecast.
