| TYPE OF EVENT & VENUE |
An annual free outdoor street fair event held along West 111th Street in
Spanish Harlem. The salsa music and dancing take place in a huge
school yard with a stage and sound system and a big crowd of hundreds of
people enjoying the music and getting up and dancing. |
| MUSIC |
Mostly pure classic salsa plus some cha cha, bachata & merengue. |
| DANCE PERFORMANCES |
Usually. They would be listed on our
Main Calendar. |
| DJ |
Long-time salsa DJ Efrim. |
| BAND |
Always. They are listed on our
Main Calendar. |
| DANCE FLOOR |
The surface is cement, some areas are
smooth and others are a little rough. There is no specific dance
section or floor. People just start dancing anywhere they want and
then more people join in.
Dancing is on pavement, so wear shoes that are
smooth & slippery, or just wear sneakers and keep your dancing simple.
|
| PRICES |
Free. |
| BEVERAGES AND FOOD |
It's a street fair so you will find food and
beverages being sold from stands set up along the sidewalks of 111th
Street.
Especially typical for street festivals in Latin
neighborhoods, women who live there set up tables outside their buildings
and sell beverages and Spanish food which they've just cooked upstairs in
their homes. !Deliciosa! The food section is usually on East
111th Street between 5th and Madison Avenues, but it may change, so just
check out the several blocks of 111th Street between Lexington and Lenox
Avenues. |
| DRESS CODE |
Completely casual, wear what you want, it's a NYC
street fair. |
|
DANCE TIMING |
There are some people dancing "On 2", but many are
also dancing "On 1", side-to-side, and street styles typically seen at
Latino street and beach festivals. For you pure "On 2'ers", you may
wish to bring a partner or group if you want to just dance "On 2".

| OTHER INFORMATION |
Please Note - Disclaimer:
New York City area summer outdoor salsa events in general are subject to program
changes and occasional cancellations for various reasons (band, DJ, weather,
administrative mix-ups, etc.), so don't be too surprised if this happens.
And the music may not always be as "pure salsa" as we would like.
Also, the dancing conditions may be less than ideal, for example concrete,
grass, dirt, sand, etc., so bring footwear that prepares you for any
surface. I will state the dancing surface if I know what it is.
My information comes from the most reliable sources I can find. In
most cases, the information turns out to be accurate, but occasionally it
is not. It is the nature of the beast.
