Most people are dancing on various salsa timings, such as On 1, On 2, side-to-side, or other timings.  If you want to be assured of dancing On 2, bring a partner or group, or just take a chance that you'll find some On 2 partners.

DESCRIPTION Free.  Outdoors.  Most Sundays June through August.  Time: approximately 2:30 to 7:00 PM.  This is a Coney Island tradition known to most of the local salseros.  Happening for quite a few years, they play some excellent classic salsa music for the pleasure of dancers and folks on the beach.  Held in a big wood surface area near the Thunderbolt roller coaster, this event has a very friendly, casual, laid back atmosphere, with everyone dancing in jeans, shorts & bathing suits, in sneakers, sandals or barefoot.  Some people dance On 2, while others dance On 1, side-to-side, ol' Cuban style, and every other way salsa can be done.  If you want to be assured of On 2 partners, you may wish to go with a partner or a group.  The beach is nearby just on the other side of the Boardwalk, so you can alternate between beaching, swimming and dancing.  Food & beverages are also available nearby, consider bringing folding chairs, blanket, ice chest, radio, the works.  Please note:  This event is occasionally cancelled, such as for rain, so go there expecting "whatever....".  If it doesn't happen, there's always the beach, and Coney Island is right there with its rides & restaurants.  But most of the time, it happens.  See our Summer Events Listing Policy.

By Subway:  Take the A, F, N or Q trains to the last stop, the Coney Island / Stillwell Avenue Station.  Then walk to the beach and Boardwalk.

By Car:  Get on Shore Parkway in Brooklyn.  Take Exit 6, then take Cropsey Avenue toward the beach.  Turn left on Surf Avenue, then right on West 15th Street.  Click Here For Map

Parking:  Metered Parking is available along most streets. There are commercial parking lots on West 17th Street at MCU Park (The Official Coney Island Parking) and West 12th Street between Mermaid and Surf, West 15th Street between the Boardwalk and Surf and on Neptune Avenue between West 12th and Stillwell Avenue. - See more at: http://www.coneyisland.com/tourist-information#sthash.iqhvML0n.dpuf

Please Note - Disclaimer:  New York City area summer outdoor salsa events in general are subject to program changes and occasional cancellations for various reasons (band, DJ, weather, administrative mix-ups, etc.), so don't be too surprised if this happens.  Also, the dancing conditions may be less than ideal, for example concrete, grass, dirt, sand, etc., so bring footwear that prepares you for any surface.  I will state the dancing surface if I know what it is.  My information comes from the most reliable sources I can find.  In most cases, the information turns out to be accurate, but occasionally it is not.  "It's the nature of the beast."  See our Summer Events Listing Policy
