TYPE OF EVENT & VENUE |
Held in a rooftop nightclub/lounge with a view of Manhattan, bar,
lounging, pro sound system and 3 indoor & 1 outdoor smallish dance floors, all of
which are a smooth stone surface. People dress up a bit to look good
and there's both an afterwork non-dancer crowd and a nighttime dancing crowd. |
MUSIC |
Mostly classic salsa plus a little cha
cha, bachata & merengue played by the DJ. Sometimes, because of
the non-mambo-dancer afterwork crowd, there will be other kinds of music
played. |
DANCE PERFORMANCES |
Possibly. They would be listed on our
Main Calendar. |
DJ |
DJ Mustachio Jonathan Jorge. |
BAND |
No. |
DANCE FLOOR |
3 rectangular smallish dance floors indoors
and 1 outside on the patio. They are a smooth stone. |
PRICES |
$10 cover. Drink specials 10:00 PM - 12:00 midnight,
though most drinks are the usual Manhattan club prices such as, for
example, a mixed drink cocktail $14, plus gratuity. For info and discounts, get on the
Guest List. |
BEVERAGES AND FOOD |
Full bar plus kitchen open late for appetizers & bar
food. |
DRESS CODE |
Dress to impress. It's a penthouse nightclub
party so look sharp. |
DANCE TIMING |
Some mambo dancers using "New York On 2" timing and style, and others
dancing on other timings/styles. There also is an afterwork crowd of
"non-dancers". |
DESCRIPTION |

OTHER INFORMATION |
ID required for
admission to the club. Please Note:
Since commercial clubs have high expenses and need to make a profit in
order to stay open and continue playing lots of salsa, they will therefore
cater to the customers who spend the most money at the bar. Mambo
dancers can help get what they want by spending more money for drinks at
the bar, even if it's sodas, fruit juices, virgin cocktails, water, sports
drinks. You may think you're smart by not buying anything at a club,
or sneaking in a bottle of water or liquor, but actually you are pushing
them to cater to other customers who will spend more at the bar.
Those are the customers who want to hear other kinds of music instead of
salsa. If we want commercial clubs to feature more salsa nights, we have to pay for it by purchasing
beverages at the bar. This is just simple economics.
