TYPE OF EVENT & VENUE A salsa social held in a huge YMCA gym with a big smooth wooden floor.  Plenty of seating around the dance floor for relaxing and socializing.  Tip:  Sometimes actual seats may be limited so bring a chair.
MUSIC Almost entirely pure classic salsa plus a little cha cha.
DANCE PERFORMANCES Yes, usually there are performances, held around 10:00 PM.  They are listed on our Main Calendar.
DJ DJ Ray Vega and occasional guest DJs.
BAND None.
DANCE FLOOR Huge wooden gym dance floor "medium speed".
PRICES Very reasonable, typical salsa social admission price.  Advance discount tickets available by contacting Gus Adams.
BEVERAGES AND FOOD A selection of cold beverages are sold at the entrance-way.
DRESS CODE Casual.

DANCE TIMING

Many people dancing "New York On 2" timing and style while some are dancing On 1 or other styles.

DESCRIPTION This is the 3rd year of this event which is a salsa party that began as part of the annual Harlem Week Celebration and will be continuing throughout the year.  Presented by long-time salsero Gus Adams, it will be held in a very big gym which is part of the Harlem YMCA facilities.  There will be dance performances at around 10:00 PM and they will be listed on our main Calendar.  And the MC for the night will be Gus Adams himself.  Plenty of classic salsa will be played by DJ Ray Vega, and sometimes guest DJs,  on a professional sound system.  The event has a very large wooden gym floor which is "medium speed".  Refreshments will be for sale and tables and chairs are there for relaxing and socializing.  The dress code is casual.  This is a Gus Adams Production and is sponsored by the Harlem YMCA of Greater New York
 
HOW TO GET THERE The Harlem YMCA is located at 181 West 135th Street (between Lenox Avenue and Adam Clayton Powell Blvd. [7th Avenue]), in uptown Manhattan on the west side.  The closest subway stop would be the #2 or #3 trains to the 135th Street Station (at Lenox Avenue).  You could also take the B or C trains to the 135th Street Station (at St. Nicholas Avenue), but you will then have to walk several blocks.  Click on Click Here For Map to see the exact location.  For more information on public transportation, click on  NYC Subway-Bus-Train Maps , or NY-NJ PATH Train Maps or Long Island Railroad Maps or MetroNorth Railroad Maps
 
OTHER INFORMATION No dress code.  No age limit.  There is street parking within the surrounding blocks.  Just keep looking.
